Selecting Artwork

girldrawingcardsWe think every piece of artwork is fabulous because it’s an expression of individuality, and because it’s from the heart. But some pieces translate better than others onto our stationery and notepads.

Here are few tips for selecting the perfect piece:

  • The standard size for reproducible artwork is 8½” x 11″ or smaller. Larger sizes can be accommodated but will, unfortunately, require additional charges.
  • The best paper is usually bright white paper with a smooth matt finish (vs. anything like a linen finish). We’ve found that plain old bond paper is excellent. A nice thick, bright white, acid-free smooth paper works well, too.
  • Artwork that translates to best generally has several contrasting colors in it. The colors don’t need to be circus-like, but they should vary in hue and brightness for best results. But please note that monochrome piece can be stunning, but artwork with very similar tones or colors may not translate as well.
  • A single theme or item (for example, a landscape, an object, a family scene, or an animal) is preferable to five or six different themes in one drawing.
  • Tools that produce great results include poster paints, finger paints, tempura paint, crayon, and crayon markers
  • Stay away from pencil drawings. The lines can be extremely pale, thin, and difficult to reproduce. In fact, we strongly recommend against submitting artwork that is created in pencil.
